Activity 3.2.1 - Natural Resources Review

Natural resources are any resources we get from the earth and are separated into two categories. The first is renewable resources which are those that can be replenished relatively quickly and are virtually inexhaustible. An example of this is trees used for paper that can be replanted and grown with a bit of time The other category are non-renewable resources which are those that may take thousands or millions of years to replenish. For example, some fossil fuels take millions of years to replenish in the proper conditions. Both renewable and non-renewable resources may be over consumed, giving rise to the need for sustainability. To avoid using certain resources, synthetic materials may be used. These synthetics are still made of natural resources, but are alternatives to the ones being over consumed. For example, plastics may be used in place of wood in furniture. Another thing people can do to be sustainable is reuse and recycle their materials.
